    • RENNtech M278 twin turbo 4.6 liter V8 ECU tune upgrade - +70 horsepower, 530 crank horsepower for C218 CLS550

RENNtech is proud to announce our latest ECU performance upgrade for the all new M278 engine currently in the C218 CLS 550, E550, CL550, S550 and other upcoming Mercedes models. We have been hard at work refining our performance tune for these engines and are pleased to announce our latest ECU upgrade. Itís clear that the 4.6L V8 biturbo engine from Mercedes is certainly underrated from the factory and though our extensive testing and R&D; our ECU upgrade truly unleashes the performance lurking in the M278 engine.

RENNtechís ECU upgrade for the M278 offers huge gains across the entire RPM range; increasing crank performance numbers an additional 70 HP and 80 TQ. This translates to an astonishing 530 HP and 606 lb/ft of torque at the crank! These numbers are factored at a conservative 15% drive train loss.

The performance increase is instantly noticeable at the bottom end and continues throughout the biturbo engines broad powerband.

Here is the CLS 550 (C218) dyno sheet:

Our CLS 550 stage 1 ECU upgrade is available now for $2,740. For additional information, visit out product webpage:

+1, except IMHO believe it's similar to a CLS63 without PP; regardless, it's great performance and a "sleeper".

If you're interested in aftermarket exhaust for the V-8 Bi-Turbo E class, see the clips below from PM's with Rob/Vivid Racing.

        "
I guess there's not enough demand, but it would be great if someone offered a larger diameter exhaust system for the V-8 Bi-turbo engine in the '12 E coupe. According to RENNtech, this engine dyno'd about 460 hp (stock).

"Meisterschaft is doing development for their new E550 with the v8tt stuff now, eta about 2 months to us soil. I'm waiting for one for my CLS63....
        Rob"

Thanks Rob! Is it OK to share the information about the new Meisterschaft stuff on the forum?

Yeah you can post that I'll try and get you some pictures soon. I think they are going to do it with valves and a version without valves. Should be similar pricing to the 2010 E550 coupe that they offer."

So that is going to be the only exhaust options available for now?

To my knowledge this will be the only option (at this time) to improve the exhaust for a E Coupe (and CLS63 or E sedan?) V8 Bi-Turbo.
I told Rob at Vivid Racing that I posted on this site: maybe he'll chime in.

I see, thanks. We will see how the exhaust options develop, surprised more are not tackling it.

        You're welcome!
Interesting: Eurocharged's tune that doesn't require "cracking" the ECU housing (as shown on the front page of this site).

        "It's 100% working for all 63's, 300's, 350's, 550's, and the 450.
        No initial opening required.

I'm sure a few members can chime in and explain
how we tuned theirs without opening the ECU.

Our new programmer will be released in a few days and it can store multiple tune files and the stock file.

Jerry is still working on the Bi-Turbo V8's, but all of the others are ready to go."

They don't have it yet for the twin turbo motors but it's coming.

This is from another site. The vehicle is a '12 CLS550 with the M278 engine. I've asked if it was a 4Matic or 2 wheel drive, but don't have an answer yet.

"I did the RENN Tech ECU tune on 5/01/2012. We did not do a baseline run at the track but did go to PBIR later that day (eve) . Had not been to the track in 10 years. My first pass was actually fairly good considering. Ran 12.9 / 112. Did several more passes and each time improved a tenth. Steve, the guy who drives the 9 and 10 second Benz's and also , (I believe ) the 11 sec CLS63 AMG took mine down a few times and got to 12.3. It was getting late and the conditions were very warm and humid.
This was with tune only. With a few more trips to the track and different tires and of course other mods no doubt the car will be in the 11's. DYNO RWHP 436 TQ 510"

Update per the owner of the vehicle:
"I guess you could call it 2 wheel drive. Its really 1 wheel with esp. At the track you need to do "dyno"
