  • 2012 Volswagen Golf R priced at $33,990 in the USA and offering 256 horsepower

Volkswagen has released the official pricing and specifications for what will be the most powerful Golf ever sold in the United States, the 2012 Golf R. Yes, the 2.0T in the Golf R even puts out more power than the R32 that was sold. The Golf R features Haldex all wheel drive and a 6 speed manual transmission. So that one does not have to choose between two or four doors, both styles will be offered in R trim. The car will be available for sale in early 2012.

      1. Ford Mustang GT 5.0
      2. Nissan 370z
      3. WRX STi
      4. Used E55 AMG

I could probably list more cars that are much more lucrative.
      E55 isn't manual.

Mustang and STI are the only good comparisons although the STI is ugly.

The Golf is less boy racer.

I don't really care for a manual in that car.

It can do all of what the EVO and sti can do and more. Much nicer in looks and way better build quality than both, it can easily make the same power with similar bolt ons and tune. Its basically the same AWD system that's in the lambos/audis/porsches. You get what you pay for.

I'm just saying it isn't the same sort of car.

Throw it on a track with the 1M and see what happens...

i will take a 1M over that VAG car any day !!

FWD and AWD is for losers... every time i see a guy driving a FWD or AWD car... i think of this:

Sorry you can't handle how to drive other types of cars buddy. The 1M is not even in the same league so that doesn't even make sense. Put the 1M vs a TTRS what about VAG now?

That really isn't fair, there are some great handling FWD and AWD cars.

such a bold statement. In every category there are some losers, and there are some cool people too.
Do you think fastgti is a loser just because he has a Cobalt? i really don't think he's one.

How not.. the 1 series was originally designed to be competing with VW Golf, Honda Civic and other Hatchbacks...

Somewhere in the process they lost their integrity...

If there were a 1M Hatchback... i would be the first to buy it.... just so i could stick my finger in the face of other hatchback owners who had to settle with their lousy FWD..

AWD is for offroading.... but i can see where it's essential in cars where it's often icy and snowing... such as in Iceland...

But the Golf has always had that cool look though... and i will admit i've had numerous VAG cars, the best of which was a VW Golf V6 2.8 Syncro MkIV...

But the reason why i said to put the 1M on the track with it would be mentioned earlier in the post...

If you wouldn't like it to be the 1M since it's a "Coupé" then you could probably line it up with the 130i E81/E87 Mtech, that is a Hatchback and definately falls into the same category...

All in all.... that VW is way too overpriced Click here to enlarge

AWD is not only for off-road. That is the dumbest statement, let me take my skyline off-road. There is nothing like a boosted awd platform... First three gears with 500hp with no tire spin, nothing like it

What is the purpose of AWD... please explain...

Because i know the original intentions for it were not to floor the first three gears with 500hp....

But seriously, you sound like you've never driven in snow. that's where nothing works except AWD system. You should know better than me.
