    • Class action suit against Daimler AG / Mercedes due to M156 V8 (63 AMG) engine defects

A class action suit is being brought against Mercedes / Daimler AG due to alleged defects in the M156 V8 motor. The suit states that these defects are due to premature wear. The premature wear taking place as a result of the material used in the camshafts. The camshafts used are made of cast nodular iron. The valve lifters used however are made of 9310 grade steel. In the official complaint it is stated that the combination of these metals as designed is contributing to premature wear of the M156 motors. This can be due to improper heat treating of the metals or improper offset. The main sticking point is that Mercedes and AMG have known about this since 2007 when service bulletin S-B 05.20/20b was released. We will keep you updated on the details as this goes forward.

Based on these crazt shipping costs you are describing it would almost be better if you bought a set of heads from Weistec and held onto your own and try to sell your stockers and not worry about your cores.

The cheapest option is to put them in my bag. Fly over, perve over all their goods, hire some sluts to keep me entertained after hours and come back happy.

Good point....but the $#@!es are so easy in OC that unless you're a complete dweeb you will have no trouble at all picking up hot freebies. Huntington Beach is the easiest hunting, hit up Perqs in Huntington Beach if you want to dabble in some well maintained 30 or older stuff and go a block down to Sharkeez if you want to sample any of the 20-30 year old variety. I am batting 1000 at Perqs, average is down to about .600 at Sharkeez. If you're in Newport Beach and want to do some Cougar hunting hit up 3 Thirty 3 or The Quiet Woman after 10:00pm if you want to go younger hit up Javiers Crystal Cove (great Mexican food too). If you can't get laid in one of those 5 establishments I'm going to petition Sticky to ban you from here forever LOL.

        Fun reading guys.

Back to the issue at hand. No news on the law suit, these things take time I suppose but it would be good to get some news somehow. Anyone ever get in touch with the law firm?

I know someone involved but everything and everyone has gone quiet. I don't know why.

Probably settling and part of the deal must be to shut up.

I find it VERY hard to believe that AMG would settle this case to a few out spoken individuals. My bet is that it is on going, or will die soon in litigation. Just a guessClick here to enlarge

I agree, unless there is evidence of some kind of smoking gun theres no way MB settles this case. I have still only heard of two people complaining of this problem and MB is not going to "settle" based on those kinds of numbers. If 25% of M156 owners were complaining or seeing issues then there might be some talk of a settlement but 2 clowns with modded cars complaining of premature engine component wear is not going to scare MB into any type of settlement.

Settling, even with a small number (hey specially with a small number) of claimants is always preferable than going to open court and making the issues public with bad PR and misunderstandings and unintended reputation and brand damage. Specially considering the cost of mounting a long protracted defense.

        Always.

Someone asked me earlier in this thread where I saw the number of engine failures being brought forward by the law suit.

I ran across it again so I'm posting here.

This in no way represents my own knowledge or opinion as I have no idea, I'm just repeating what I read there to here.

My personal view is that there is nothing to worry about.

        AND I QUOTE

"I just received a call from the lead lawyer in Texas. They have served MB USA, Daimler and AMG. They still do not know who will be included in the class. He said the last car case he worked it took 11 months from the time they were served until the time they settled. He said AMG owners are extremely brand loyal, so between that and the potential bad publicity, and the increasing expenses as the case drags out would lead to a quicker settlement.

He said he has numerous examples right in front of him of 156 failures. One crate engine paid for by MB was around $90k. Once the court decides or the parties agree owners will have the option to join the suit.

Interesting, so you are leaning toward a settlement?

I wonder how many "numerous" entails.

I don't think this will ever get to court.

I'm in Canada, so whatever happens in the US won't necessarily apply here.

In any case I doubt this is a broad issue.

My new C63 gets into my hands next week and I plan to own it a long time. Our warantee is 4 years and I plan to buy the extended warantee for 3 more years once I'm into year 4.

The real winners are the lawyers.

Remains to be seen what happens.
