    • HPF (Horsepower Freaks) Targets 1100 rwhp with their Stage 5 BMW E46 M3 S54 turbo kit

We just ordered up the turbo for our stage 5 turbo kit. We are going to go with the Garrett GTX4508R with the Tial V-Band Exhaust Housing and 1.0 A/R. With our extreme internals and sleeved blocks, we feel this turbo will suit nicely. We will create the tunes on both the AEM platform and the ProEFI platform. Part of our turbo manifold is already completed, but since we changed turbos, we have to alter the design slightly for the larger Garrett GTX4508R. We hope to have results later this month.

Here's a list of the Garrett product lineup:

More stats on the Garrett GT45 (Note: The "X" option isn't on this page):

Images of the Tial Housing on a Garrett GT42... Note, the GT45 we are running is larger.

Images of Cast Garrett GT42 exhaust housing vs Tial V-band (we are running the GT45 version)

It would make more power with the divided housing on it instead of the Tial..

I was gonna say that they may be fighting AGAINST the new manifold's meh design, but Gringo's post reminded me that...

the NEW HPF turbo manifold is a T4, not a Tial V band.

Something up their sleeve. Tubular manifold for their RECORD numbers??? It would be best... considering... Click here to enlarge

Sure it can help but why chose a 1400hp turbo when your aiming for 1100hp and there's a 1200hp option that will spool sooner and yield a nicer power band? And before someone says those are crank ratings, Garrett is always conservative and there are a few people who have made over 1100 on YB and supras. I'm sure he'll have a good answer(it sounds more badass and looks meaner?) but just curious.

At least 50k?? GTFO?! $#@! sell your stock engine and throw a PLR670 in there!!

Damn I thought you were kidding! I've never looked at HPF products but I guess your right if stage 4 costs $49k stage 5 must be $60k. Going only by this thread am I correct that there are people out there that spend $49k on engine mods to go 11's??? If so I'd like to get a grudge race setup asap with one please!!!

This threw me off for a second as I forgot about that.

Will this package be compatible with the Steed Speed manifold as well?

you have to also take into account the trap speed. but i do agree, if an n54 can hit 10's why not the s54. also i'd figure people buying stage 5 arent drag junkies... nor are they track rats, they want a highway monster.

Is the stage 5 car going to be a drag car? If so, what do you drag nuts think it could run with well setup suspension and the getrag 6 speed / other transmissions?

The BMW Getrag sucks with its gear ratio's for drag racing IHMO. With a huge turbo, the lag, the 4.23 first gear and 2.53 second gear, I would imagine this setup would only be good for mile racing. The smaller T67 still holds the record for 1/4 mile. After driving my Stage 3 on the street, I could only imagine what this will be like. I imagine it's going to be extremely lethargic just driving around, however go WOT, add some wings and it might actually fly.

These things need a powerglide and some proper suspension/rear end work to show what they can do. I wouldn't mind building one for drag duty... I just might.

Do it! There's a lot more to a drag car than most people seem to realize, it's time for someone to show the world how fast these things can be in a 1/4 mile. I don't see why a proper drag E46 M3 with a two speed drag transmission and over a thousand at the wheels couldn't break into the 9s.

I don't see why 8's would be out of reach if done properly for dedicated drag duty.

JT's car is basically this, but with an E36 M3 body. It will run low 7s...and possibly 6s deppending on how far he decides to go with is current trans. (He'd need to change trans to go 6s)
