Porsche released a press release a little while ago detailing the Porsche GT3 R 2.0 Hybrid. The new car will make its race debut on September 17 at Laguna Seca. This car is not eligible for any championship points with hybrid technology not being part of the GT class rules, Porsche plans to test the car in an ALMS race setting. It will be interesting to see how the car will do with its dual 100 horsepower electric motors powering a car that is 110 pounds lighter than its predecessor. Its predecessor of course scoring the first victory for a hybrid earlier this year.

In an interview with Car and Driver Porsche CEO Matthias Muller confirmed that a new mid engine sports car to be positioned between the 911 and 918 is coming. Well, we know the cars in the segment Porsche is aiming at and the main rivals are the 458 Italia and the McLaren MP4-12C. It would not be surprising to see this car share a platform with whatever Lamborghini calls the Gallardo successor. The name of the car will likely be 961 which was the race car in the famous Group B based on the Porsche 959 supercar. The car may bow in as early as 2013.

Here is the official trailer for the 2012 Porsche Panamera Diesel. On the European cycle the Diesel Panamera gets 44.4 MPG which we do not think would translate into the same style of US MPG numbers. Still, the car is quite fuel efficient. The Panamera Diesel features a 3.0 V6 turbo diesel with 250 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque. What is also interesting to note is that the Panamera Diesel is only available in rear wheel drive. Will it come to the USA? We do not know at this point but it definitely should. We are sick of getting the short end of the stick on diesels.

First of all, these are all absolutely awesome cars. It's kind of hard to pick a winner and a loser in this bunch Car and Driver did just that. The car picked last was the 997 GT2 RS. Although the GT2 RS is the second fastest, pulls the most on the skidpad, and has the fastest slalom time they rated it negatively for the turbo lag and harsh ride. Uh, it's a GT2 RS. It is made to perform not cushion your old behind. The 458 Italia is actually rated negatively due to sticker gouging? Oh, so it is the cars fault it is so awesome it can command a huge premium? Get real. The MP4-12C wins which is odd considering they say it lacks soul. It also goes against most of the tests up until this point that still pick the Italia.

It is always a lot of fun to see bikes and cars go at it. This race is interesting as it is a long race (1 mile) but it also starts from a dig. Longer races due tend to favor cars but this a tuned version of a bike that is very fast to begin with. We will not spoil it for you but the 1/4 mile and mile trap speed differences really tell the whole story. Great race and both are very, very fast.

The Cayman R with the PDK is pretty darn quick. Motortrend hits 0-60 in 4.2 seconds and goes through the 1/4 mile in 12.7@111 mph. Remember, Autocar stated the 1M coupe is much faster than the Cayman R in a straight line. We would put our money on the PDK Cayman R in a drag race. Check out the full review video from Motortrend (the narrator does not seem all that excited) below.

CAR reports that a long wheelbase version of the Panamera is coming. The wheelbase will be extended by 150 millimeters. Demand for long wheelbase models is apparently very high in China which seems to be the driving force for this Panamera model. It seems kind of weird to us though as the Panamera is supposed to be a sporty sedan and already is quite heavy to begin with. Regardless, the longer wheelbase model is coming as is a face-lift.

Most of you had seen that we were working hard on PorscheBoost. Well, PorscheBoost is now officially launched. PorscheBoost will be bringing you Porsche performance news the same way it does on AudiBoost, BenzBoost, and BimmerBoost. This means a Porsche Blog, Porsche Forums, performance, tuning, motorsport, and modification news all concerning Porsche. With 6speedonline and Rennlist being swallowed up by Internet Brands there simply is no good Porsche forum that is not under the control of a large company which means it was time for some competition and an alternative. This marks the 4th site in the Boost Network and you can expect VWBoost.com next which will complete our focus on German Performance Automobile Forums. Enjoy!

Yes, a new Porsche 911 model is coming, the 991. Everyone has had that hammered into their heads by now. The car will be revealed in Frankfurt (PorscheBoost will be there!) fully but in the mean time Car and Driver got a hold of these great spy pics. The car is still a bit disguised but you can see more details here. Doesn't really seem all that different, does it? The main difference seems to be the roofline and the rear lights.

The Porsche 997 GT3 RS 4.0 is ridiculously awesome. The Autobahn is ridiculously awesome. Seems these two things almost belong together. This is a cool little video of a GT3 RS 4.0 being topped out on the Autobahn and hitting 320 kilometers per hour (top speed is quoted as 310) or 198.8 miles per hour. The Porsche speedo may be a tad optimistic but not bad for a stock car right? Lucky Germans with Autbahn and no speed limits.

New models of bicycles that is, not cars. The "RS" stands for racing which we take it the bike will be good for. Especially considering that the frame will be a carbon fiber monocoque. The brakes are also hydraulic discs, very nice. The bike S is basically the same thing except the frame is aluminum instead of carbon fiber. It also has a Shimano shifting system with less gears. The bikes will be on sale in September for what we guess will be a ton of money.

The Panamera is a controversial car. The styling seems to be hate or it love it. What is hard to deny though is that this is a hell of a performance sedan. This new official video from Porsche makes the new Panamera Turbo S hard not to like. A quick refresher, the Turbo S has a 50 horsepower bump to 560 thanks to new tuning and larger turbos. The only downside? The $174k sticker price which is much higher than the already stupid expensive $136,000 Panamera Turbo.

Call it whatever you want, but Porsche Design has created one nice smoking apparatus. Porsche Design does a lot of varied things from luggage, to watches, to shoes, to clothing; quite a diverse lineup. We did not realize how diverse until they released this pipe. The device is two feet tall and uses aluminum and tecflex which is a long flexible material (plastic). Unfortunately, this is only available at the Porsche Design store in London at first but will spread to other stores later. Somebody at Porsche had to be smoking something when they came up with this. ...

We know Protomotive does some great work modifying 911 turbos. We saw one absolutely destroy a Switzer R911 not too long ago. Well, these dyno sheets should show you why some of the Protomotive cars are so strong. These sheets were sent to us from overseas and we agreed to black out the name on the sheets to protect the owners privacy. The car is a 3.8 liter 997 Turbo that was run by Todd K on the dyno in 5th gear with the torque slightly lowered since 4th gear was exceeding the dyno torque limiter. The pump gas dyno is at 1.1-1.2 bar putting down 748 at the wheels and the very impressive race gas pull shows 1132 AWHP at 2.0 bar which is not even max boost. This is a stupid amount of power, VERY impressive. ...

This is a new video from Porsche showing the 991 undergoing hot weather testing in South Africa. There are a few shots of the new 991 turbo included as well. By now, everyone know the car will have a 7 speed manual, be lighter, and offer up to 15% fuel economy savings while being more powerful. Ancitipation for this car is definitely growing and Porsche is doing a good job building up the suspense for the official reveal. Check out the video an don't be surprised when it makes you feel like you want one. ...
