Renntech continues to keep raising the bar with the AMG M157 twin turbo V8. The first run in the 10's on this platform was a 10.9@129 earlier in January of this year. After that they were the first to break 130 miles per hour through the traps on the platform running 10.9@131 in March. This run sets a new quickest record at 10.79 although the trap speed record is still 131. In better conditions (this took place at PBIR in 85-90 degree weather 2000+ Density Altitude) we expect the trap record to fall fairly easily. ...Published on 06-06-2012 10:10 AM
Autocar reports the next generation MK7 Golf GTI is getting a boost to 260 horsepower putting it on par with the Golf R and topping the GTI Edition 35. The next generation GTI will also be getting a drop in weight thanks to use of aluminum. In order to put this amount of power down through a front wheel drive drivetrain Volkswagen is giving it a new VAQ differential which employs and electronically controlled Haldex clutch. ...Published on 06-06-2012 02:58 AM
Introducing the new higher performance Mercedes SLS AMG GT. This 2013 vehicle will be replacing the standard SLS and will be available in coupe or roadster form. In addition to a boost of 20 horses the car also gets revised dual clutch transmission programming likely to improve driveability as well as improve shifting performance. The suspension also gets a performance update with a revised air suspension system that is now called AMG Ride Control Performance. ...Published on 06-06-2012 02:27 AM
Many of you know Renntech from the Mercedes tuning world. They continue to expand their offering for other platforms including BMW. Below is a dyno graph from Renntech's S65 V8 software. The vehicle is a 2008 6 speed manual E90 M3 with 78,000 miles and a high flow cat. It was run on a hot Florida day in STD correction. Gains are 25 wheel horsepower at peak with just a tune only on pump gas from the baseline. The gains are throughout the entire curve, solid results from Renntech. ...Published on 06-03-2012 09:34 PM
Congratulations to Audi who pulled off the victory this weekend in Spielberg at the Red Bull Ring. Edoardo Mortara took home the victory for Audi Team Rosberg. Mercedes and BMW both made the podium as well with Martin Tomczyk finishing in second for BMW and Gary Paffett finishign in third for Mercedes. This was an exciting race with a lot of overtaking place. Audi now moves into second place in the Manufacturer Championship with Mercedes in first and BMW in third. The next race is in 27 days at the Norisring on July 1st. ...Published on 06-03-2012 09:17 PM
The 996 GT2 is pretty powerful car and somewhat of a handful with no traction control or all wheel drive to reel it in. Basically, you have to know what you are doing. In stock form they put out around the 440 wheel horsepower range and with bolt on's like the car here can get into the 520 wheel horsepower range. The car will run around 120 mile per stock through the 1/4 mile so 124 is a decent result especially for a track like PBIR (Palm Beach International Raceway) and street tires. ...Published on 06-03-2012 08:56 PM
Seeing highly modded cars take on bikes (and modified bikes at that) is just plain cool. When a car can hang with some very fast liter bikes it deserves and has earned respect. The Nissan GT-R in the video here is said to have 890 wheel horsepower at 28 psi on C16 leaded race gas. The BMW S1000RR has a Power Commander 5, Austin Racing exhaust, and runs a custom map set by the owner. The BMW bike is very, very damn fast. Check out the video below.

Definitely cool to already see the new C63 Black Series Coupe supercharged. This car features their V63 supercharger kit which of course comes with a tune and intercooler. The car also gets headers, a valved exhaust, and coil-overs. This "conversion" is priced at 38,000 Euros or $47,000. Our understanding is that this is basically a rebranded Weistec supercharger so we have no idea why someone would pay an absolutely absurd price for all of this. The result definitely adds power and the car does look great though. ...Published on 06-03-2012 01:09 AM
Supercharged M3's are definitely quick cars as seen here. The new F10 M5 is no slouch itself but in stock form it is about a 122 mile per hour trap car whereas the M3 should be in the mid to upper 120's. We do not have dynojet numers for the new F10 M5 yet but we expect it to be somewhere in the 480 wheel horsepower range. This ESS kit should be in the mid to upper 500's depending on pulley the owner ran. Impressive result for the M3 considering it is a 6-speed manual. Less weight plus more power makes for a beatdown. ...Published on 06-03-2012 12:56 AM
In a bit of a surprising move the Audi North America CEO Johan De Nysschen resigned after nearly 20 years with the company. Apparently the move was made ahead of a more aggressive overhaul that is going to take place in the executive ranks of the VW Group who wants more aggressive action against BMW. We are still waiting on official word from Audi but De Nysschen left stating the following, “These have truly been the best years of my life, and I know the best years for Audi still lie ahead. It is a magnificent company, a magnificent brand and I shall watch the continued progress of the four rings with interest and envy.” ...Published on 06-03-2012 12:54 AM
Well, looks like VW is going to give us the R-Line CC later in the year. Is this big news? Well, not exactly as the changes are minimal. It is the same 2.0 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder but it will be mated to an optional 6-speed manual in addition to the DSG dual clutch transmission. Exterior changes are made as well with a sportier front bumper, side skirts, and R-Line logos. Shaded taillights are also included as well as what VW describes as "dramatic" 18 inch wheels. Dramatic? Well, we did not make it up check out the press release below. ...Published on 06-01-2012 06:40 PM
Now this has to be cool to see for Porsche enthusiasts. For those unfamiliar, the Gulf livery has a bit of a history with Porsche models. This number 20 car in the classic Gulf racing colors is a spiritual successor of sorts to the 917 driven by Steve Mcqueen which wore similar colors. This particular car was driven at the Porsche Sport Driving School in Alabama and is currently under the possession of BMW of Beverly Hills who no doubt is asking a small fortune for the car. To be noted, this is a wrap and not a paintjob. We would not blame anyone for buying this Boxster, definitely cool. ...Published on 06-01-2012 08:34 AM
The new N20 turbo motor is going to become a very popular tuning platform and is already off to a very good start. 270 wheel horsepower on a dynojet is right in the range of what the E9X 335i put down stock. So essentially a tune and a downpipe and you hit stock 335i power. The N20 is not going to going to give up a whole lot and is going to be the definitive BMW tuning value. Also keep in mind this is early on so gains of 37 wheel from the baseline with a tune and downpipe are just the beginning. ...Published on 06-01-2012 08:16 AM
The new CLS has been receiving a lot of attention from the aftermarket regarding body upgrades. This is one that we just can't get into due to how overdone it is. Simply way too much junk tacked on with the vents in the front and rear fenders as well as the overlapping exhaust tips. The last time we saw a CLS that got this kind of reaction was the purple, red, and yellow CLS we spotted. There simply are much cleaner and better looking options for widebody kits with the new CLS. ...Published on 06-01-2012 08:11 AM
VW Canada states that the Amarok pickup is being "evaluated" for the Canadian market. We hate to butt in here but there is a much bigger market than Canada that LOVES the pick up truck. There also is plenty of room in this sector as there is not a single mid-size diesel options we can think of. A fuel efficient mid-size with a diesel putting out 177 horses and 310 pound-feet of torque? What is there to debate really, this is a big hole in the market. ...Published on 06-01-2012 04:12 AM
The Zagato coupe was revealed a few days ago at the prestigious Italian car show Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este and we now have a video to go along with the photos of the car. This is a concept from the famed Italian Zagato coachbuilder who teamed up with BMW. The body is entirely built by hand and we must say we would not mind if a new Z4 coupe came out looking just like this example especially considering it is about 400 pounds lighter than the Z4 with its heavy folding hard top. ...Published on 06-01-2012 03:50 AM
The new Audi S3 is coming and is said to be getting the new 2.0 motor the EA888. Horsepower figures are said to be at the 276 mark which is a bit less than what the M135i and A25 AMG will be packing. It will likely take an RS3 to match up or supersede those models. Still, the car offers good power and great looks. Despite the model being 22mm longer, 21mm taller, and 201mm wider it is expected to weigh 176 pounds less than the outgoing model. Now that is progress! Expect the official reveal shortly. ...Published on 06-01-2012 01:04 AM
The 981 Cayman is wrapping up final testing and we hope for the official reveal in the next couple months. A spy photographer captured it here wearing minimal camouflage. The Cayman will share the drivetrain of the new 981 Boxster so no surprises here. The Cayman S will have a 3.4 liter flat-6 with 315 horsepower (maybe a 5 HP boost) and the Cayman will have a 2.7 liter with 265 horsepower. Check out our renderings here to get an idea of what the finished product will look like.

Here is another "special" edition M3 from BMW. We love limited edition models but this really is nothing more than an M3 with existing package and some matte paint. Almost amusing that BMW chose red, white, and blue paint schemes for these cars until we remembered the Union Jack influenced our own US flag colors. In addition to the matte paint the cars get a black interior with stitching to match the exterior, Alcantara wrapped steering wheels, and black rims. ...Published on 05-31-2012 11:31 PM
We think it is very cool that Mercedes offers a Performance Package for 63 AMG cars with the new M157 twin turbo V8. It essentially just raises boost however for the expensive price of around $7300. One can do much better in the aftermarket for less money as seen here with OE Tuning's results on a new CLS63 AMG. The graphs below show a car without the performance package which hits 466 WHP and 461 WTQ. With the Performance Package it hits 501 WHP and 521 WTQ. And with a tune on both? 566 wheel horsepower and and 596 wheel torque. ...
